EASTPAK is the authentic brand for packs and bags, famed for their style, toughness & functionality Born in the USA over 30 years ago, EASTPAK was the first brand to use Cordura to make its packs - making them tougher, stronger and better value for money than any of the others out there. EASTPAK prides itself on its 'Built to Resist' philosophy and offers a 30 year warranty on most of its standard packs and luggage, so you can buy with confidence. The brand started out as Eastern Canvas Products, established in 1956 by Monte Goldman. The company produced a variety of bags and pouches that were hard-wearing, tough and durable. With the bags’ high quality a key factor, Eastern Canvas Products soon became the key supplier of knapsacks and ammo pouches to the US Army. Mark Goldman, Monty’s son and student at the local college, noticed a lot of the kids on campus were using the Army Surplus bags for study. So he persuaded his father to create specific backpacks for the college student, and thus in 1976, the Eastpak brand was born. EASTPAK remains at the forefront of Music, Art and Fashion, having over recent years produced collaborations with The Hives, The Prodigy, The Kaiser Chiefs and the Ed Banger record label, as well as the fashion designers Raf Simons, Eley Kishimoto and KRISVANASSCHE from Dior Homme. It is also responsible for the Eastpak Artist Studio project, getting global artists from a variety of disciplines to customise the iconic Padded Pak'r backpack to make one-of-a-kind pieces, and selling them with all proceeds going to a new charitable organisation. For 2012 the Charity of choice is Designers Against AIDS, and collaborators involved vary from Johnny Marr of The Smiths to The Hot Cheese Crew, an artist collective from Germany to Uri Shaft, a baker from Israel! |
